There are two main considerations for adding UV coatings to your printed documents. The first and probably most common reason for UV coating is to protect the document from scratches and scuffing particularly if the printed piece is going to be put through the postal system. The second popular reason for UV coating is for aesthetic reason. UV Coatings come in a variety of formulations from a full matte to a semi gloss to a full gloss. UV coatings offer your document a more finished and professional look.
Many printed products such as postcards, business cards, brochures, flyers, book covers and magazines are handled frequently and as such need a protective coating in order to prevent fingerprints, scratches and scuffing. UV coatings are strong and are very effective in preventing scratches. UV coating gives the best results on cover weight paper stocks.
Environmentally Friendly
Compared to conventional solvent based coatings UV coatings produces virtually no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) and is considered to be environmentally friendly.
- Don't release VOC's into the atmosphere
- Dont require the application of heat for drying (uses less energy)
- The are less flammable than solvent-based materials
- Can be included in the "mixed waste" category of recyclyed stock
